Colorado 2015

One of my best friends from grade school, Kayla and I decided to take a ski trip during Mardi Gras with our families.  So we rented a condo in Breckenridge and started planning.  Going on the trip was my family (Me, Mike and Rylie), Kayla's family (Kayla, Shay & Race), and Kayla's mom (Heather), Dad (Paul) and brother (Kolby).

We had a super early flight out of NOLA.  We got to Denver early, but then had to catch a shuttle to Breckenridge that took almost 3 hours.  We got to our condo, unpacked and walked to town to grab a bite to eat and let the kids play in the snow.

The next morning Kayla and I took the kids dog sledding or "mushing."  We had to walk to town to wait for our shuttle.  When we arrived we had a quick safety talk and were off.  We first got to see the dogs.  They seemed so happy to see us... Rylie and Race were excited to see them too. Our guide explained to us a bit on how things worked.  Kayla and Race were up first.  However, they didn't last long as they tipped the cart in only 20 feet or so which scared Race.  So Rylie and I were up next.  Rylie handled it like a pro as i sat back and enjoyed the views.  It did get pretty scary at time as we were cutting close to trees and were going pretty fast.  I was next to "drive" and didn't do so well.. at one point i fell off and the dogs took off with Rylie in the cart, but luckily the dogs are well behaved and stopped with the our guide that was leading the pack noticed. It was an exhausting day and the kids crashed in the shuttle back to our condo.

The next morning was ski school.  Me, Mike, Rylie, Kayla and Mr. Paul attended a 1/2 day school. Needless to say we all struggled a bit, except for Rylie.  Me, Kayla and Mike were pretty hopeless. We started on the bunny hill, then eventually we went up to the bigger practice slope.  Me, Mike and Kayla ended up giving up and walking down the mountain.  Rylie did fantastic and ran the slope several times by herself.  She was a natural.

After a full day of skiing, we went back to the condo.  Luckily, we had a sledding hill in the back yard of the condo that made a great free and fun activity.

The next day we all went on a snowmobile expedition.  We rode to the Continental divide, where we stopped and had a snowball fight.  That night Me, Mike and Rylie walked through town and to the ice skating rink.

The next day was a free day and we enjoyed walking through the town, doing a little shopping, some delicious crepes and more sledding.

Tennessee

Tennessee  Tracy City/Lynchburg  Every year after hanging out with our extended family over the holidays, we promise each other that we will spend more time together. Well in 2022 we made that happen. Our cousins Dawn and Brian reached out to see if we would be interested in taking a short trip to Lynchburg, TN to visit the Jack Daniels Distillery . We jumped at the chance and Dawn started looking for places for us to stay. She found us the cutest "tiny home" at The Retreat at Water's Edge .  Day 1:  We picked up Dawn and Brian at their home in Covington, LA bright and early on a Thursday morning. When we got there, Dawn had mimosas ready (my kinda woman)! We loaded up Mike's truck and started making our way to Tracy City. After hours of laughing and a couple mimosa refills for us ladies, we made a stop for lunch in Tuscaloosa, AL at Avenue Pub . The food was delicious and the beer was even better.  We finally made it to the retreat where our tiny home was. It w...

Ireland 2010

Ennis We took an overnight flight to Shannon, Ireland and landed around 9am.  Having not been able to sleep on the flight, it probably wasn't the best idea to hop in a rental and drive several hours (on the wrong side of the road and the wrong side of the car) to the Cliffs of Moher.  Mary the driver, Julie the navigator and Holly asleep in the backseat! We should have realized we were in trouble when Mary started the rental and tried to drive away, but the car was making a streaking sound... Then a nice man walked up and told us we still had on the emergency break! :)    After taking in the views of the Cliffs we drove to the beautiful city of Ennis and checked into the Old Ground Hotel.  We later walked the streets, shopping, grabbing dinner and drinks, then stopped in a local pub where Holly insisted we each have an Irish Car bomb, since we were in Ireland after all.  Obviously, this was not Holly's first rodeo! Cuba 2017

As soon as I heard that flight from the US to Cuba were scheduled, I began thinking of an excuse to go!  Commercial flight began in Late 2016, so with our anniversary in early March, that gave me just enough time to start planning and booking.  Traveling to Cuba from the US for the sake of tourism was illegal however, the Department of Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control has issued general licenses for 12 categories of travel.  We traveled with a People to People educational visa.  I mentioned to Mike the idea of going to Havana for a long weekend to celebrate our anniversary and he was all for it.  I booked our flights from Southwest out of Fort Lauderdale and our Casa Particular and we patiently waiting for March.  Because of limited flight to and from Havana, we had to stay the night in Fort Lauderdale.  I booked the cheapest room I could find since we would only be there for 8 hours or so.  FYI, the cheapest room in Fort Lauder...
