Colorado 2015

One of my best friends from grade school, Kayla and I decided to take a ski trip during Mardi Gras with our families.  So we rented a condo in Breckenridge and started planning.  Going on the trip was my family (Me, Mike and Rylie), Kayla's family (Kayla, Shay & Race), and Kayla's mom (Heather), Dad (Paul) and brother (Kolby).

We had a super early flight out of NOLA.  We got to Denver early, but then had to catch a shuttle to Breckenridge that took almost 3 hours.  We got to our condo, unpacked and walked to town to grab a bite to eat and let the kids play in the snow.

The next morning Kayla and I took the kids dog sledding or "mushing."  We had to walk to town to wait for our shuttle.  When we arrived we had a quick safety talk and were off.  We first got to see the dogs.  They seemed so happy to see us... Rylie and Race were excited to see them too. Our guide explained to us a bit on how things worked.  Kayla and Race were up first.  However, they didn't last long as they tipped the cart in only 20 feet or so which scared Race.  So Rylie and I were up next.  Rylie handled it like a pro as i sat back and enjoyed the views.  It did get pretty scary at time as we were cutting close to trees and were going pretty fast.  I was next to "drive" and didn't do so well.. at one point i fell off and the dogs took off with Rylie in the cart, but luckily the dogs are well behaved and stopped with the our guide that was leading the pack noticed. It was an exhausting day and the kids crashed in the shuttle back to our condo.

The next morning was ski school.  Me, Mike, Rylie, Kayla and Mr. Paul attended a 1/2 day school. Needless to say we all struggled a bit, except for Rylie.  Me, Kayla and Mike were pretty hopeless. We started on the bunny hill, then eventually we went up to the bigger practice slope.  Me, Mike and Kayla ended up giving up and walking down the mountain.  Rylie did fantastic and ran the slope several times by herself.  She was a natural.

After a full day of skiing, we went back to the condo.  Luckily, we had a sledding hill in the back yard of the condo that made a great free and fun activity.

The next day we all went on a snowmobile expedition.  We rode to the Continental divide, where we stopped and had a snowball fight.  That night Me, Mike and Rylie walked through town and to the ice skating rink.

The next day was a free day and we enjoyed walking through the town, doing a little shopping, some delicious crepes and more sledding.

Chicago

Day trip  November 18, 2021 One of my 50 before 50 Bucket list items was to fly somewhere for dinner (deep dish pizza). So, Mike’s 49 th Birthday was a great excuse to knock something off my list. It also helped that we had Southwest Rapid Rewards points so our flight was free. I booked us on the first flight out of New Orleans, which left at 5:30 AM. It was a close call with it being that early of a flight and our GPS accidently took us to the old MSY airport. Luckily, we didn’t have any luggage to check and made it through security quickly and got to the gate just as the flight was boarding. We arrived at Midway Chicago airport at 7:50 AM and quickly found the orange line station to take the “L” into the city. After my experience in NYC subways, I was a bit scared, but this was very simple system to get to the city. We bought tickets for a couple bucks and hopped on the train. When we left New Orleans, it was 75 degrees and Chicago was 35 degrees! A nice change… We got off th...

Tennessee

Tennessee  Tracy City/Lynchburg  Every year after hanging out with our extended family over the holidays, we promise each other that we will spend more time together. Well in 2022 we made that happen. Our cousins Dawn and Brian reached out to see if we would be interested in taking a short trip to Lynchburg, TN to visit the Jack Daniels Distillery . We jumped at the chance and Dawn started looking for places for us to stay. She found us the cutest "tiny home" at The Retreat at Water's Edge .  Day 1:  We picked up Dawn and Brian at their home in Covington, LA bright and early on a Thursday morning. When we got there, Dawn had mimosas ready (my kinda woman)! We loaded up Mike's truck and started making our way to Tracy City. After hours of laughing and a couple mimosa refills for us ladies, we made a stop for lunch in Tuscaloosa, AL at Avenue Pub . The food was delicious and the beer was even better.  We finally made it to the retreat where our tiny home was. It w...

Rylie's Senior Trip Cruise

Belize, Honduras and Mexico For Rylie’s senior trip and 18 th birthday, we decided to go on a cruise to celebrate.  Day one on the boat was a bit of a blur. Between waiting to get in the room, then waiting for our luggage, the safety drill, our A/C in the room not working, etc., we were exhausted. That night was pretty low key. We did go to the karaoke bar for Rylie to sing a couple songs and make some new friends.  Day two and three were both at sea days. We tried to lay out by the pool, but it was either packed with people or too hot! We did attend more karaoke, movie night and a couple comedian shows on those days. Day three was actually Rylie’s 18 th birthday. I had our steward decorate our room and I had ordered a cake. Rylie and her new friends came up from the pool mid-day to have a piece and celebrate. That night Rylie went out to the “club” with her new friends since she was now of legal age.  Day four we finally got to our first stop, Roatan, Honduras. This da...
